Quicksburg VA…Shenandoah Caverns…The caverns tour consists of a one mile, one hour walk through around 17 spectacular rooms and passageways. All of our tours are personally guided by a knowledgeable guide who will show you all the wonders of this underground world, as well as answer any questions you may have. You’ll see a variety of unique, intricate and unexpected formations like the Capitol Dome, Rainbow Lake and Beyond the Veil. Our famous “Breakfast Bacon” formations were featured in National Geographic Magazine. From soaring rooms like Long View Hall to the extraordinary crystalline formations of Diamond Cascade, there’s a new wonder around every bend.
The caverns remains a constant 56 degrees year-round, so only a light jacket is needed. The elevator takes you into and out of the caverns, but the cave is not considered ADA accessible. You do need to be able to stand for one hour and walk one mile on a crushed gravel pathway with inclines and declines. There are two ramps with handrails. Due to the nature of the cave, there are some spots where you will need to duck your head. We do allow wheelchairs, scooters and strollers to go through about 80% of the tour, but please keep in mind that it is quite difficult to push a wheelchair on the gravel pathway.
American Celebration on Parade…at Shenandoah Caverns offers an up close look at a unique collection of stunning parade floats, props, and stage settings from America’s entertainment and political history. This collection includes parade floats from the Rose Parade, Presidential Inaugurals, and other national celebrations. Children and adults of all ages love the playful animation of the floats, while massive floats “they’ve only seen on TV”.
RT 11 Potato Chips…in Mount Jackson VA. (formerly of Middletown VA) where you can enjoy some of the best potato chips anywhere. About 10 years ago, with lots of potatoes, good oil, salt, serendipity, and a little luck, Route 11 Potato Chips sprouted in an old feed store in Middletown, Virginia. They felt that their only purpose in that moment and many after, was that they produce the best potato chips on the planet. Chips they could be proud of. Chips, that with every potatoey crunch, would make you feel like you were experiencing something very special. Everything they make is hand-cooked. This is much more labor intensive than the continuous frying methods of the big boys, but the payoff in creating a product that is truly delicious is worth all the effort. They hope you enjoy the chips as much as they do. Surprise…some even taste like vegetables!
